Betfred Insights Racing Results

UX Design Case Study

Project

Betfred Insights aims to launch an innovative tool that enables users to easily access horse race results. The primary challenge lies in creating a design that is consistent with the Betfred brand while utilising data sourced from the Racing Post website. Additionally, a significant hurdle is effectively condensing a large volume of information into compact formats suitable for mobile devices.

Goals

  • Present horse racing data in a clear and engaging format that enhances usability across all devices.
  • Ensure that all necessary information is displayed effectively.
  • Incorporate Betfred's branding and visual language seamlessly.
  • Different races may require varying information; find a cohesive way to present all details without compromising the overall aesthetic.
  • Collaborate effectively with external developers to enhance project outcomes and foster innovation.

Design Process

1. Discovery & Research

Stakeholder Interviews: Established alignment on product objectives and data capabilities.

Competitive Analysis: Analysed competing horse racing result platforms to identify best practices and visual trends.

Company Offers: Reviewed Betfred's offerings in horse racing to integrate into our results design.

2. Wire framing & Structure

Emphasised a clean, user-friendly design that is easy to read and navigate.

Introduced slider bars for seamless navigation through dates and times, incorporating a calendar selection consistent with previous on-site usage.

Prioritised a mobile-first approach, ensuring a thumb-friendly layout with clearly clickable cards.

3. Visual Design

Utilised colour schemes that align with the Betfred brand while adopting a modern aesthetic.

Designed UI components that integrate smoothly into the existing Betfred brand system.

Incorporated designed silks that are adaptable across all devices without compromising information clarity.

4. Prototyping & Handoff

Developed interactive and responsive prototypes using Figma.

Guided the Wonder Agency development team through the UX designs.

Provided necessary assets and ongoing support throughout the build phase.

Designing the first version of the Horse Racing Results page taught me how to present complex, fast-updating data in a way that's clear, intuitive, and user-friendly. I focused on creating a layout that made it easy for users to scan race outcomes, odds, and runner details across multiple racecards. Collaborating closely with developers from the start ensured that the design was both technically feasible and optimized for performance. I’m proud to have helped launch a results experience that now serves as a reliable and engaging destination for racing fans on the Betfred platform.
